Making resilience count in sovereign debt and credit profiles

Wednesday, 23 September 2026 | 12:00–1:30 PM ET

The event will be hosted by the Ugandan Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, the Zambian Ministry of Finance and National Planning, the Bridgetown Initiative and NORAD, in collaboration with the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action.

The discussion will focus on how the economic and fiscal benefits of adaptation and resilience investments can be better reflected in sovereign debt and credit risk assessments. Uganda and Zambia are among the first countries advancing country-level work in this area, and will share emerging evidence on how resilience investments can strengthen economic and fiscal outcomes and, ultimately, debt sustainability and creditworthiness.

The event will bring together Ministries of Finance, the IMF, World Bank, credit rating agencies, and development partners to discuss what is needed to translate this emerging country-level evidence into broader changes across the sovereign finance system.
